INFORMATION ABOUT CDRS FOR POTENTIAL VOLUNTEERS
All qualified individuals interested in volunteering for CDRS medical relief activities in Pakistan should contact Todd Shea as soon as possible to discuss their available dates for working at CDRS field medical facilities. Due to limited funding that must be utilized for the cost of operating CDRS, volunteers are responsible for their personal airfare and travel costs to Islamabad.

1) Volunteers needed for CDRS Pakistan Earthquake Medical Relief Program Operations in Pakistan (listed in order of highest priority):
a) Female Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Workers and Medical Students (Preferably those who speak Urdu)
b) Male Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Workers and Medical Students (Preferably those who speak Urdu)
c) Mental Health Professionals and students (Preferably those who speak Urdu)
d) Physically fit and highly motivated Volunteers/College Students with skills and experience in hiking, carpentry, plumbing, construction or sanitation (Preferably those who speak Urdu)

2) Volunteers needed for CDRS Pakistan Earthquake Medical Relief Program Operations in The United States
a) Volunteers to assist with fundraising efforts and events

3) What to bring to Pakistan
Personal Items - Sleeping bag, flashlights, batteries, good quality boots, hand sanitizer, lots of clean socks, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, baseball cap or sun hat, khaki pants, Leatherman multi-tool, pens and notepad, raincoat, baby wipes, quick dry towels, Dramamine (if you experience motion sickness), copy of passport and visa, copy of immunization records Medical staff should bring: penlight, stethoscope, copy of medical license and/or credentials
(Eastern Mountain Sports has given a 25% discount on camping gear to relief workers, check to see if they are still providing this discount)
Operational Items - You may bring your personal medical kit. Medications, supplies and equipment are provided, however, some items may be in short supply from time to time. Check with CDRS if you wish to donate funds or medical items for CDRS operations

4) Accommodations and Amenities
CDRS main medical facilities and residential space is housed in a steel reinforced concrete building that survived the earthquake and was cleared for occupancy by structural engineers. The building has 30 rooms, inluding 6 bathrooms with running water and working plumbing. Volunteers working at one of the three satellite CDRS medical facilities will be accomodated by the families of our staff doctors
Water - Bottled water is available for drinking
Food - Breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared fresh daily by our local chef. Omelettes, toast, fresh prata and roti bread, fresh vegetables, daal, rice, lentils with chicken, beef and vegetarian dishes (Bird flu has not been reported in the area and our chef is trained in safely preparing and cooking all food thoroughly)
Security - CDRS is located very close to the local police unit and the main facility building is secure
There have been no security or safety incidents since medical relief services began operating in November 2005. We do recommend that all personal belongings and valuables be kept under lock and key
Electricity - Electricity is working in the area, however, blackouts occur frequently. We have generators for outages and emergencies
Telephone Information - CDRS has a telephone and volunteers may call their home country provided they keep their conversations as brief as possible too keep phone bills low. Cell phone service - some limited cell serivce is operating in the area
Internet – Dial-up Internet access is available through the local phone line. Inexpensive Internet cards can be purchased in Chikar and Muzzafarabad.
